QIIR Trainee Program

QIIR Trainee Program is a graduate program for full time students or graduates (bachelors, masters and PhDs) in ‘985/211’ universities in China. It offers two fields to choose from: Research and General Management. Students who join will be Research Trainee or Management Trainee respectively.

We aim to improve students’ learning capabilities, enhance their knowledge and employability by providing opportunities to participate in research projects, communicate with national and international experts and organize academic events. In addition, mentors will provide one-on-one and systematic guidance to foster their research capabilities or management capabilities. Through this program, we aim to familiarize students with mentors and other staffs to construct a reserve talent pool.

QIIR focuses on fostering the students’ global outlook and learning capabilities. In addition to arranging cooperation with national and international experts, the mentors will provide a periodic review. Our talent development strategy and retention scheme will provide a chance for outstanding interns to be listed in our talent retention pool. So far, we have successfully launched our first two Trainee Program with a total of eleven excellent domestic and international students (seven Research Trainees and four Management Trainees). Our trainees participated in four research projects and organized several social activities under mentors’ guidance.

Qualified Research Trainee must be post-graduate students or above, with a strong academic background in social science (e.g. economic, finance). Successful applicants will be mentored by one of the directors of our three research centers (Financial Innovation Research Center, The Belt and Road Research Center, Shenzhen-Hong Kong Cooperation Research Center) and will participate in one to two research projects on average, including literature review, data collecting, data analysis, report writing. Trainees will also have the opportunity to work with domestic and foreign visiting research fellows and conduct research under their guidance.

Qualified Management Trainee must be graduate students or above (all majors are welcomed to apply). Successful applicants will be mentored by the HR manager at QIIR. This program will provide an invaluable opportunity for participants to gain insight into the development of an organization, especially a non-profit organization. Besides daily administrative management, participants will have the chance to assist in organizing various academic and social events, such as, forums, seminars and academic salons. Through organizing events, management trainees will have the opportunity to communicate and work with leading experts, distinguished scholars and professionals from different fields.

This program, as a part of our talent development strategy, will be carried out twice a year (the program lasts for 4-6 months each time) and will select four to six outstanding applicants each round. Applications are open all year round. The HR department will process applications every January and June. Moreover, we may also accept non-scheduled applications according to the actual needs of our academic projects and events at a given time.

Trainees' Feedback
I worked under the financial innovation department of QIIR.My main task was to assist in the research project titled "Qianhai Cross Border Financial Index". I entirely enjoyed my internship this summer, this internship gave me an invaluable experience and exposure under my belt. The amount I learnt had a lot to do with the fact that I interned at a young institute. It feels accomplishing and motivating to put effort into a project or event and then see its results directly influence the institute in a constructive way. The colleagues are very caring, as they always try to make sure I really understood the purpose of each task and that I did it correctly. Internships are also a great way to network with people in the industry. Co-workers were very friendly in giving me contacts and referring me to open positions in the industry. In short, I do believe that the internship in QIIR definitely exceeded my expectations of the value it has brought to me.
Huang Jiawei, Managment Trainee (2015.7-8), City University of Hong Kong

I am so lucky I had the opportunity to be an intern with QIIR. Coming from a small, liberal arts school in Minnesota, I was nervous about traveling around the world to see a new place and to work with new people. But I quickly learned that the atmosphere at QIIR is truly one of support and guidance throughout the learning process. As I worked with researchers and management groups at QIIR, I found that I was never left to face my challenges alone. With the support and guidance of my mentors and peers, I was able to not only overcome these challenges and barriers, but also to gain new knowledge about aspects of commerce and international trade that I never had the opportunity to do so before. I leave QIIR with a better understanding of what it means to be involved in a research institutive, renewed inspiration for learning, and hope for what the future holds.

My internship experience in Qianhai was beyond my expectation, as I got to immerse myself into a wide range of activities and jobs. This included arranging the opening ceremony of QIIR, research and administrative tasks that are essential for laying the foundation of a new research institute. These tasks allowed me to gain immense knowledge on how a new institute is managed in all aspects, from human resources to management and financing. I am grateful for QIIR to grant me this opportunity as it has given me the invaluable chance to assess my decision making and team work skills.

The work environment in Qianhai is definitely one of the most harmonious and encouraging one I have ever experienced. All the employees in the QIIR are very supportive and welcoming. In fact, by the first week in QIIR, I already felt as if I was always a part of this institute. Though it has already been a month since the internship ended, a part of me is still left behind at QIIR. No doubt I will always keep in touch with the institute that has given me the exposure of a lifetime. I wish all the best for QIIR's future endeavors and hope it reaches new heights!
